The journey is the reward.

Another bend in the road...

When I graduated from college, a future of endless possibilities stretched ahead of me into the distance. I did not, however, foresee a career as an author on the path ahead of me. That should not surprise me. Truth be told, I have a lousy track record as a fortuneteller. In fact, I'm usually the last to guess where life will take me, and have been blind-sided by most (if not all) of the twists and turns that have come my way, but that's been half the fun.

Despite my lack of foresight, I've spent most of my life preparing to for this career (I won't admit to how many years that's been). Nothing has been wasted. I learned about old-fashioned journalism in high school, and I'm also skilled at graphic arts and web design. And perhaps most importantly of all, my years in practice as a primary care physician let me study human nature and allowed me to learn first hand the wide range of responses you'll see to crises both large and small.

So, here I am, an author...

When writing became an all-consuming passion, refusing to take a backseat to any of the other demands on my time, I was ready, and work on THE LEARNER'S PERMIT began. I completed it in the fall of 2007, and I am in the process of looking for the right agent to represent me and my "baby." In the meantime, I'm working on my Short Story MFA, and I've begun work on my second novel, Photographs & Memories--I have about 47,000 words written on the first draft as of Thanksgiving (my guess is that I'm somewhere between half and 2/3 of the way through this initial draft). I don't want to say much about it yet, except that while I think readers will recognize my voice, it has a very different feel than my first novel. Click on the links to the right to learn more.
